17 Rooms-X McGill | McGill Office of Sustainability

Published: 1 February 2024

February 2, 2024 | An initiative led by MPP alumnus Julian Lam, 17 Rooms-X McGill is a unique event that will bring together faculty, staff, students, and practitioners who are working to advance progress on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).  This process will feed into McGill’s next climate and sustainability strategy (2025-2030) and will provide broader insight into challenges and opportunities for advancing progress on the SDGs at McGill.

17 Rooms-X McGill will take place across 8 sessions (or “Rooms”) between February and March, focusing on 1-3 SDGs per session. Each session will last around 1 1/2 hours and will bring together McGill students, staff, faculty, and practitioners.

Each targeted gathering will seek to advance interdisciplinary, intra-university action by unearthing work being done on each of the SDGs at McGill and identifying what more can be done in our university context. 17 Rooms-X McGill aims to produce research-oriented recommendations, institutional recommendations, and social recommendations to advance progress on the SDGs. These findings will inform McGill’s Climate and Sustainability Strategy (2025-2030) and will be presented in a dedicated 17 Room-X McGill report, which will identify existing obstacles to advancing SDG collaboration on campus and propose solutions for addressing them, as brainstormed by the participants.

If you are interested in being a Room Participant, please let the organization know by email (17roomsxmcgill [at] gmail.com) or fill out this form.

This inaugural event is supported by the McGill Office of Sustainability, with financial support from the Sustainability Projects Fund. 17 Rooms-X McGill was developed in collaboration with the 17 Rooms secretariat. The 17 Rooms initiative is a partnership between the Center for Sustainable Development at The Brookings Institution and The Rockefeller Foundation.
