Presentation by Professor Don Nerbas, Department of History & Classical Studies and the first incumbent of McGill’s Chair in Canadian-Scottish Studies.
Sir Edward Beatty (1877 – 1943) President of the Canadian Pacific Railway (1918-1943) was a major 20th century business leader.
As Chancellor (1920-1943) Beatty was an active force at McGill. During the Great Depression of the 1930s,“the decade of the Chancellor,”Beatty played a decisive role in the University’s operation.
