Tuesday, October 28, 2014 17:30to18:30
Faculty Club Ballroom, 3450 rue McTavish, Montreal, QC, H3A 0E5, CA

McGill is delighted to weclome D. R. Fraser Taylor, who will deliver the 2014 Killam Lecture in the Social Sciences. Dr. Taylor introduced the world to the power of cybercartography, an enhanced form of multimedia mapping using geographic information management, to deepen our understanding of socio-economic issues. In Canada, and around the world, his cybercartographic atlases have delivered new perspectives and a way to comprehend complex issues such as trade and economic patterns, international development, and the risk of homelessness. He continues to apply his expertise with Inuit and First Nations communities in Canada. On the world stage, he is actively engaged in the new United Nations Initiative on Geospatial Information Management, which seeks to address key global challenges through more effective use of global geospatial information. D. R. Fraser Taylor is Director of the Geomatics and Cartographic Research Centre at Carleton University in Ottawa. In 2013, the International Cartographic Association awarded him the Carl Mannerfelt Gold Medal, which is the highest international honour in the field of cartography.
