Three members of the McGill University women's volleyball team have earned all-star conference status -- two of them winning major awards -- as the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec announced the league award winners Wednesday.
Kaiva Mateus racked up a game-high 14 kills, to go along with an ace and two stuff blocks but it was not enough as the visiting McGill women's volleyball team suffered a 3-2 loss at Laval, Friday. The set scores for the Rouge et Or were 15-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-19 and 15-10 in a two-hour, 12-minute marathon played at the Centre PEPS.
Kaiva Mateus, a 6-foot-1 middle blocker from Montreal, uncorked 11 kills, three aces, three assisted blocks and an equal number of digs as McGill stunned the division-leading Université de Montreal Carabins 3-1 in women's volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Saturday. The set scores were 25-24, 25-22, 21-25 and 25-19 in an intense match that lasted 110 minutes.
Kaiva Mateus of Montreal West, registered nine kills, a pair of aces and four stuffs and two assisted blocks as McGill swept the Sherbrooke Vert & Or 25-18, 25-11 and 25-14 in women's university volleyball at Love Competition Hall, Sunday.
