On International Day, UN Secretary-General calls for protection of natural resources in war-torn countries
United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon today highlighted the importance of protecting the environment in times of armed conflict, and stressed that strong natural resource governance can help prevent conflict and contribute to long-term peace.

The Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity is hosting, from 2-18 October 2013 in Montreal, three major United Nations meetings on biodiversity.
