Many of the nation's top athletes are at McGill University this weekend for the Quebec university indoor track and field championship, a two-day meet at Richard Tomlinson Fieldhouse, located inside the McGill Sports Centre at 475, Pine Avenue West. Click here for medal winners.
Hayley Warren of Orillia, Ont., and Francis Laforest of Laval, Que., are the McGill University athletes of the week for the period ending Jan. 24, 2009.
Montreal native Maxime Beaumont-Courteau, a third-year medical student at McGill, broke a school record to highlight the McGill Open II, a track and field held at Richard Tomlinson Fieldhouse, Friday.
McGill's Melanie Myrand of Pointe Claire, Que., won a bronze medal at the New Balance Collegiate Invitational, a two-day event billed as America's biggest indoor collegiate track & field meet. The McGill women's 4x800 relay had the best performance of the weekend, posting the third fastest time produced by a CIS quartet this season.
McGill teammates Hank Palmer and Justin Darlington each set school records to highlight the 15th annual McGill Team Challenge track and field meet, a two-day competition held before 400 fans crammed into Richard Tomlinson Fieldhouse over the weekend. The event also produced five meet records and three Fieldhouse marks.
