Track and Field (W)
Olympic sprinter Hank Palmer of Pierrefonds, Que., will be among a handful of national team athletes participating at the 16th annual McGill Team Challenge track and field meet this weekend at Tomlinson Fieldhouse, located in the McGill University Sports Centre at 475 Pine Avenue West.
A number of McGill varsity sports teams will be in action over the holidays. The only local events will be in basketball, with the Redmen suiting up for the Classique des Citadins tournament at UQAM and the Martlets playing at the Concordia-Reebok Invitational tourney. Both hockey teams will be out of town, along with the volleyball, track and swim teams.
Free admission is being offered to anyone who brings a non-perishable food item to any McGill basketball, hockey or volleyball home game this weekend. This kicks of a two-day food drive for the Sun Youth Community Centre, an annual initiative of the McGill Varsity Council, a group that represents all varsity athletes on campus.
Former Olympic swimmer Richard Pound, who went on to a lengthy administrative career with the International Olympic Committee, headlines a new cast of six inductees to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame, Thursday, bringing the list of honoured members to 101 since the pantheon opened in 1996. The induction luncheon officially kicks off the University's Homecoming Week celebrations.
