Track and Field (M)
A number of McGill varsity sports teams will be in action over the holidays. The only local events will be in basketball, with the Redmen suiting up for the Classique des Citadins tournament at UQAM and the Martlets playing at the Concordia-Reebok Invitational tourney. Both hockey teams will be out of town, along with the volleyball, track and swim teams.
Free admission is being offered to anyone who brings a non-perishable food item to any McGill basketball, hockey or volleyball home game this weekend. This kicks of a two-day food drive for the Sun Youth Community Centre, an annual initiative of the McGill Varsity Council, a group that represents all varsity athletes on campus.
There seems to be nothing that Majenta Whyte-Potter-Mal won’t embrace with enthusiasm and a positive attitude. For those reasons, the 23-year-old medical student from LaSalle was selected to receive the Andrea Taylor memorial award at the annual McGill track and field awards evening.
Sprinter Hayley Warren of Orillia, Ont., was named rookie of the year and MVP of the track and field team at the 13th annual McGill University track and cross-country awards gala, held at Molson's Brewery, Saturday.
