The McGill University women's soccer team opened their 61st season with a scoreless draw in exhibition play against the Ottawa Gee-Gees in the nation's capital, Monday. The Martlets have less than 24 hours to prepare for their own home opener as they will host the University of Windsor Lancers at Molson Stadium, Tuesday. Kickoff is 7 p.m.
McGill took home 18 of 84 bursaries handed out at the 26th annual Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence gala, Wednesday, as a combined total of $189,750 was doled out to worthy student-athletes from nine Quebec universities. McGillians won five of the 11 major categories, sweeping both academic excellence prizes and both athletic excellence awards.

Sophomore goaltender Victoria Muccilli of Mississauga, Ont., was named to the first squad along with teammates Mélanie Desaulniers-Rioux, a sophomore defender from Lac Beauport, Que., and Meghan Bourque, a sophomore midfielder from Burlington, Ont.
Sophie Normandin scored twice on breakaways as Sherbrooke upset the McGill Martlets 2-1 in an RSEQ indoor soccer sudden-death semifinal at the Centre Sportif Marie-Victorin, Sunday.
