Douglas-Based Research Team Obtains $1.5 Million to Study a New Method of Neuronal Communication

Salah El Mestikawy, PhD, a researcher at The Douglas Institute, along with his research team, have received $1.5 million to explore the dual signalling capacity of neurons. This research grant is one of five new Multi-Investigator Research Initiative (MIRI) grants awarded by Brain Canada with funds from the Canada Brain Research Fund and Partners.

Presentation: In her doctoral research, Ola Haïdar examines variations in the experience of primary health care services of persons according to their vulnerabilities or personal characteristics, the organizational characteristics of the services they received, and also to the characteristics of the places they live in. She proposes that the interaction between these three elements can change the experience of primary health care services.

I want to take this opportunity to honour and thank Ann C. Macaulay, CM MD FCFP, who was the founding Director of Participatory Research at McGill, for her decades of service and commitment to primary care and community health.  I am delighted that Ann continues on in our Department as Professor of Family Medicine and that we will continue to benefit from her mentoring, expertise, and experience.

Following her medical training in the UK, Ann came to Canada in 1969 to pursue a career in family medicine.
