Professor Hall tops list of best social media accounts for academics, reports UK's Guardian

UK national newspaper The Guardian today published a list of their favourite blogs and social media accounts for academics. To no one's surprise Dr. Nathan Hall, of our Department of Educational and Counselling Psychology, topped the list with his popular @AcademicsSay twitter handle, where he has amassed over 180,000 followers.

Professors Choudry, Rassier awarded Canada Research Chairs

Professors Aziz Choudry and Dilson Rassier of the Faculty of Education have been awarded Canada Research Chairs (CRC), announced the Honourable Kirsty Duncan, Minister of Science, at the University of British Columbia this week. CRCs are granted to "outstanding researchers acknowledged by their peers as world leaders in their fields." The program was created to help Canadian universities retain world-class researchers.

"In his 91st year, Ron Sharp (1925-2016) passed away after a short illness in Ottawa. Born in Ottawa, May 1, 1925, Ron achieved much in his life as an athlete, teacher, coach, mentor, husband and father.

Gravitational Waves

"The first direct detection of gravitational waves is now widely expected to be announced on 11 February by the Advanced Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO). Using LIGO's twin giant detectors — one in Livingston, Louisiana, and the other in Hanford, Washington — researchers are said to have measured ripples in space-time produced by a collision between two black holes." Professor Naomi Nichols, of our Department of Integrated Studies in Education (DISE), is co-editor of a recent publication, Exploring Effective Systems Responses to Homelessness, published by The Canadian Observatory on Homelessness (Homeless Hub). The collection represents the nation’s first book on systems-level solutions to homelessness.
