The McGill University golf team begins its season on the road this week at the Bic Classic hosted by the Université du Québec à Rimouski, Aug 29-30. This two-day, 36-hole event is the first of three events in the RSEQ university golf circuit.
The University of British Columbia Thunderbirds captured their fourth consecutive national women's title, while the Laval Rouge et Or earned their second men's banner in the last three years at the Canadian collegiate championship, conducted by Golf Canada, Friday, at Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, B.C.
Brian Neill of Ottawa shot a six-over-par 77 to lead the McGill Redmen golf team but it was insufficient as Neill and his four teammates failed to make the cut after three rounds of play at the Canadian collegiate championship, conducted by Golf Canada, Thursday, at the Cordova Bay Golf Course in Victoria, B.C.

McGill sits 19th of 20 teams, 37 shots off the lead. McGill's individual scorers were: Benoit Miquel (78), Ryan Boyd (80), Tom Calvet (80), Brian Neill (83) and Sean McKinney (87).

The McGill men's golf team has qualified for the 2012 national university and college championship tournament, to be played at the Cordova Bay Golf Club in Victoria, B.C., May 28 to June 1. McGill earned its berth based on its results in the Quebec University golf circuit in the fall of 2011.
