The prize was established in 2006 by David Altshuler and the Altshuler family, in honour of his father, John Altshuler, BSc ’55, MDCM ’59. This prize is awarded annually by the Faculty of Medicine to a graduating medical student with the highest mark in the family medicine clerkship.
This year’s recipient, Douglas Slobod, received the award at the Dean’s Awards Ceremony and Reception on May 29.

Dr. Mark Clarfield will be presenting at the Department of Family Medicine on Friday, June 6th from 12:30 - 1:30. Dr. Clarfield is the Co-Director of the collaborative Ben-Gurion University - Columbia University Medical School for International Health (MSIH), and Sidonie Hecht Chair of Geriatrics at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev Faculty of Heath Sciences.
Please join us to hear about Dr. Clarfield's experience for developing his research career and his secrets for getting published in the area of primary care, with a focus on older people.

The results from the Fonds de recherche Santé-Quebec (FRQS) have been announced and we would like to congratulate the members of our department who have been successful. These competitions are very competitive and few are actually successful in obtaining these salary support awards.
CIET-PRAM will be hosting Germán Zuluaga, a Colombian physician, epidemiologist and director of the Center for Intercultural Health Studies (bio below) for 3 weeks in April/May.

The annual list recognizes outstanding contributions to education in the areas of teaching, educational leadership and innovation, faculty development, and research and scholarly activity.
This course is an update in dementia management for providers of direct care. Through plenary sessions and interactive workshops, some of the basis for dementia care will be reviewed but practical applications of case finding, diagnosis, treatment, communication between professionals, competency and management of behavior disturbances will be emphasized. Each workshop session will be approximately half hour duration. Registrants will be able to participate in all 6 workshops.
