Freshman Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., placed fifth overalll to lead the McGill Martlets to finish fourth of 17 teams at the 37th annual Western International Cross-country Invitational meet at the Thames Valley golf course, Saturday.
McGill took home 18 of 84 bursaries handed out at the 26th annual Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence gala, Wednesday, as a combined total of $189,750 was doled out to worthy student-athletes from nine Quebec universities. McGillians won five of the 11 major categories, sweeping both academic excellence prizes and both athletic excellence awards.
Charlène Puel, a native of Lyon, France and Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., captured three trophies apiece at the 15th annual McGill University track and field awards banquet held at the McGill Faculty Club, Friday.
