McGill grad garners gold as Canada doubles USA to win world inline hockey championship

The Canadian women's senior inline hockey team had a McGill flavour when it defeated the United States 4-2 on Saturday, to claim gold at the 11th annual world championship of the Fédération Internationale de Roller Sports, a nine-team tournament in Bucaramanga, Colombia.

McGillians play role as Canada stuns USA to win world football championship

The Canadian national junior team jumped out to a 10-0 first half lead and went on to stun top-seeded Team USA 23-17 to capture gold at the International Federation of American Football Under-19 championship in Burger Stadium in Austin, Texas on Saturday night. The Canadian squad featured McGill sophomore quarterback Dallon Kuprowski of Kanata, Ont., and Redmen offensive coordinator Patrick Boies.

The late Air Vice-Marshall Frank McGill is among five new additions announced recently for induction to the McGill Sports Hall of Fame. Once referred to by The Canadian Press as "a hazel-eyed superman", McGill was also inducted to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame in 1959 and the Canadian Football Hall of Fame in 1965.

Vossen becomes fourth member of CIS champs to sign pro pact

Evan Vossen, who scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the McGill University men's hockey team their first-ever CIS national championship last March, has signed a contract to play for the Stockton Thunder of the East Coast Hockey League. Stockton shares an NHL affiliation with both the Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks.

McGill announces coaching change in women's rugby

Vince deGrandpré has stepped down as head coach of the McGill University women's rugby team and been replaced by John Lavery, a resident of Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Que., who has spent the past four seasons on the Martlets coaching staff. DeGrandpré posted a 115-42-2 overall record over his 14 years, including a 74-13-2 mark in regular season play.
