By Earl Zukerman MONTREAL – They say that goaltending wins games. That was not the case Saturday, however, as a pair of rare goaltending calls cost the basketball Redmen dearly in a 100-90 overtime loss to visiting Laval before 367 at the Currie Gym.
MONTREAL – Anthony Lukca, a senior with the McGill Redmen football team, is among 27 preliminary prospects that have been invited to the Canadian Football League’s draft evaluation camp, March 6-8 at Varsity Stadium in Toronto.
MONTREAL – The Montreal Alouettes have signed McGill University receiver Erik Galas, a 22-year-old free-agent from Ottawa, to a contract of two years, plus an option.
MONTREAL – The McGill Varsity Council, a group which represents some 950 intercollegiate athletes at McGill University, has collected more than three large bins of non-perishable goods on a food drive for the Sun Youth Organization in Montreal.
MONTREAL -- A festive ceremony was held at McConnell Arena recently to hand out championship rings to members of the McGill University Martlets hockey team who became the school’s first women’s team to capture a CIS national title in any sport.
