Habs sign McGill grad Mathieu Darche

The Montreal Canadiens signed forward Mathieu Darche to a one-year, two-way contract, Wednesday. An unrestricted free agent and a product of the McGill University Redmen, he played 80 games last season for Portland in the American Hockey League, scoring 66 points, including a team-leading 31 goals.

McGill football season tickets now on sale

Season tickets for the 129th season of football at McGill are now on sale. A four-game package is available for just $39 and includes a free McGill Athletics T-shirt, which translates into a $16 savings off the regular game-day tickets. A four-game parking pass for Molson Stadium is available to season-ticket holders for only $20.

Babcock will become third McGill man to coach in Olympics

Mike Babcock was officially named head coach of Canada's 2010 men's Olympic hockey team, Thursday. "To have the opportunity to be an Olympian is something I've thought about lots as a kid growing up," said Babcock, a graduate of McGill University who played defence for the McGill Redmen from 1983 to 1987. "I'm very excited and humbled."

When you meet new USC basketball coach Kevin O'Neill up close, it's pretty clear there's nothing fanciful or naive about him. He grew up in a part of upstate New York that only locals know how to get to. He played college ball at McGill University in Canada and had humble beginnings.

Mike Babcock now Red Wings' lone All-Star rep

Detroit - The Detroit Red Wings have many stars, but no All-Stars. Due to injuries to centre Pavel Datsyuk and defenceman Nicklas Lidstrom, the Wings, with the third-best record in the league, will be represented by coach Mike Babcock, a McGill grad who will serve as an assistant to San Jose's Todd McLellan for the Western Conference.

Sniper Iannone heads inductees into McGill Hall
