On October 29, 2003, the Quebec Minister of Health and Social Services, Philippe Couillard, established a Commission to review the plans of the McGill University Health Centre (MUHC) and of the Centre hospitalier de l'Université de Montréal (CHUM) to redevelop their respective hospital facilities.

The Dean of the McGill Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Abraham Fuks, is proud to announce that the Queen Elizabeth Hospital of Montreal Foundation has made a gift to McGill University of $1,566,000 to endow a chair to be named the Queen Elizabeth Hospital of Montreal Foundation Chair in Pediatric Anesthesia.
The Montreal Children's Hospital of the McGill University Health Centre provides specialized pediatric health care in Quebec through its Child, Youth and Family Health Network.
McGill law professor Roderick A. Macdonald is one of five Canadians who have been awarded the prestigious Trudeau Fellows Prize for outstanding contributions to issues of public policy this year. Another prizewinner, Professor Ann Dale of Royal Roads University, received her PhD from McGill under the supervision of Professor Stuart Hill, Department of Natural Resource Sciences. Each Fellow receives a $150,000 prize paid over three years, plus a $25,000 annual allowance for travel and research expenses.
Two McGill University students were the big winners of a Quebec-wide scientific competition this week. Faculty of Engineering students Yunlu Shen (civil) and Julie-Anne Denis (mechanical) both received awards of $5,000 from "Chapeau les filles! Excelle Science." The contest is organized by the Government of Quebec to recognize achievements of women who enter technical, professional and scientific disciplines. Participants are from the high school, CEGEP and university levels. Some 55 young women were honoured with awards of $1,000 to $5,000.
