The fact both boards agreed to the C$3.2 billion ($2.3 billion) offer, along with Lowe’s commitment to preserve head-office jobs and maintain supply agreements, will likely seal the deal. Political conditions in Canada’s second-most populous province also favor the acquisition after helping to scupper a hostile offer in 2012.

Rémi Bolduc, Chair of the Jazz Department at the Schulich School of Music, was awarded an Opus Prize in a ceremony held Sunday, February 7 at the Salle Bourgie. His concert performance of "L'Hommage à Dave Brubeck" featured performances by Schulich School of Music jazz students Andrew Boudreau, Mathieu McConnell-Enright and Louis-Vincent Hamel. Bolduc says "Having this opportunity to give a concert with some of my students from the Schulich School of Music is an inspiration for me and also for them.
British Columbian soprano Chelsea Rus was named the winner of the 2016 Wirth Vocal Prize in the inaugural edition of the competition held Sunday, February 7 in Tanna Schulich Hall. Ms. Rus performed a program that included works by Puccini, Massenet, and Strauss. She is a master's student in the studio of Joanne Kolomyjec.
