Incentives for Global Health's (IGH) mission is to increase access to essential medicines through our flagship proposal, the Health Impact Fund (HIF). Millions of people suffer and die each year from neglected diseases because pharmaceutical companies sell their patented drugs at hugely marked-up prices. These companies are incentivized by the international intellectual property system to develop drugs for ailments that affect primarily affluent people who can afford these exorbitant drugs.
Salah El Mestikawy, PhD, a researcher at The Douglas Institute, along with his research team, have received $1.5 million to explore the dual signalling capacity of neurons. This research grant is one of five new Multi-Investigator Research Initiative (MIRI) grants awarded by Brain Canada with funds from the Canada Brain Research Fund and Partners.
As part of the Infection and Immunity Seminar Series, Dr. Ciriaco Piccirillo from Department of Microbiology and Immunology, McGill University will be giving a lecture entitled “Foxp3+ regulatory T cells in health and disease: from mechanism to biomarker discovery".

LG Electronics (LG) today announced 44 executive appointments, among them three new company presidents. Among the promotions are new executives to lead the Home Entertainment (HE) Company and Global Sales and Marketing Office. New positions are effective December 1, 2013 with promotions taking effect on January 1, 2014.
