On March 11, 2017, Schulich doctoral piano student Zhenni Li, a student of Prof. Stéphane Lemelin, was named winner of the New York Concert Artists and Associates Worldwide Debut Audition. Selected as one of three finalists, out of 165 who applied, Zhenni Li performed the Rachmaninov 3rd Piano Concerto in D minor, Op. 30 with the New York Concert Artists Symphony Orchestra, led by conductor Eduard Zilberkant. Preliminary auctions were held in Los Angeles, New York, Cologne, Warsaw, Budapest and Paris.
Desautels alumna Lauren Merkel makes the case that Bermuda’s best resource for moving the island nation forward is its arts and cultural capital. Ms. Merkel is a senior consultant at Toronto-based Lord Cultural Resources, which specializes in the cultural heritage sector.
IMPM student Isabelle Graveline says that the programme’s Indian module has changed her approach to business — and life. She saw how Indian businesswomen were using micro-finance to improve their lives, and visited a $1.5 billion biopharm company, started in its founder’s garage in 1978, where “the biggest stakeholders are the employees.” For Graveline, “the firm’s focus on meeting its workers’ expectations really resonated with me.”

For the ninth McGill Hot Cities tour, Desautels Associate Professor Karl Moore brought 40 students to Hong Kong, then Palawan and Manila in the Philippines to observe some of Asia’s strongest growing economies.
Students of trumpet Professor Richard Stoelzel and Paul Merkelo have excelled at the International Trumpet Guild Competitions and will advance to the final competition round later this spring. Francis LaPorte, student of Richard Stoelzel, and David Koch, student of Paul Merkelo, have been named finalists in the International Trumpet Guild Orchestral Competition. Benjamin Hare, student of Richard Stoelzel, is the first alternate for the Solo Competition Finals.
