It's widely accepted that, as we mature, we're at greater risk of developing Alzheimer's disease, a general decline in mental abilities, including memory, language and logical thinking. Dr. Sonia Lupien's research has shown that high levels of stress hormones in the elderly are linked to both memory impairment and atrophy of the hippocampus, a part of the brain critical to memory that shrinks as Alzheimer's disease progresses.
