Special concert by the student-run a cappella group Effusion! Join us for an hour of exciting vocal music, infused with gospel, jazz, R&B, pop, rock, folk and beat box. Effusion has performed at the Principal's skating party, Discover McGill and, most recently, Christ Church Cathedral. The concert is a fundraiser for "In Their Shoes," a student advocacy group linked with the Genocide Intervention Network, whose purpose is "building an anti-genocide constituency by prioritizing advocacy, education and donation of funds to support initiatives from the grassroots." Tickets available by contribution at the door or reserve in advance by calling number below.

Thomas Carothers, vice president for international politics and governance, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Washington, DC. Mr. Carothers directs the Democracy and Rule of Law Project, which analyzes the state of democracy around the world and efforts by Western governments, non-governmental organizations and international institutions to promote democracy abroad. He is the author of five critically acclaimed books on democracy promotion, the latest of which is "Confronting the Weakest Link: Aiding Political Parties in New Democracies" (2006).
