A name change for the Graduate School of Library and Information Studies was approved by the Board of Governors, McGill University, in May 2007, to better encompass the teaching and research areas of the School. The new name is School of Information Studies.
The recipients are Professors Kimiz Dalkir, Catherine Guastavino, Andrew Large, Jamshid Beheshti and Eun Park.
Professor Kimiz Dalkir was granted, at May convocation, the Teaching Award of the Faculty of Education, McGill University, for her outstanding teaching in the area of Knowledge Management.
Ms. Lise Bissonnette, President and Director-General of the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec (BAnQ), was awarded the honorary degree of Doctor of Letters at the May convocation of McGill University, for her outstanding achievements in literature, journalism and public library service.
Vincent Larivière, a doctoral student at SIS, has received a three-year fellowship of $105,000 from SSHRC to pursue his study on the bibliometric analysis of the contribution of graduate students to the advancement of scientific knowledge, under the supervision of Professor Jamshid Beheshti.
Emily Toms, MLIS'07, was awarded the Albert Tabah Prize for Highest Standing throughout the MLIS program. Stephanie Simard, MLIS'07, received the Dr. Herbert Stanley Birkett Award for highest standing in GLIS 671, Health Sciences Information, in 2006-2007. Shazia Ahmad, MLIS'08, received the Margaret Downey Prize for exceptional academic merit in MLIS I. Benjamin Abrahamse, MLIS'08, was awarded the Virginia Murray Prize for Cataloguing for highest standing in GLIS 607, Organization of Information, in 2006-2007.

On Thursday, at around 11:30 am, we encountered a problem with some of our network switches, which are connected to several central servers. When the switches were rebooted, connectivity to the servers was lost, and this may have prevented some users from accessing their emails and network files. Prof. Catherine Guastavino of the School of Information Studies has been appointed Associate Director (Scientific Research) at the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Music Media and Technology (CIRMMT), and an Associate Member of the Schulich School of Music.
Professor Jamshid Beheshti of the School of Information Studies has been named interim dean of the Faculty of Education for a term commencing September 17, 2007, until May 31, 2008. The former Dean, with whom Prof. Beheshti was serving as Associate Dean (Administration), has taken up a new position at the University of London.
