Essay calling for a complete revamp of executive education cites Henry Mintzberg

Wed, 2017-05-24 13:12

A recent essay in Chief Learning Officer calls for a massive rethink of how executive education is designed and delivered.

It starts with the premise that executive education needs a major overhaul. As Desautels Professor Henry Mintzberg says, “The practice of management, as evidenced in a lot of big corporations and banks, is utterly dreadful. I don’t think business schools really get it, or care to get it.”

Men, women and the authority deficit

Wed, 2017-05-24 13:04

Desautels Professor Laura Doering recently appeared on CJAD 800 AM to talk gender and jobs. She is the co-author of a study that looked at a non-stereotypically gendered job (a loan manager) to compare how men and women were perceived in the role.

The findings indicated that men enjoyed more authority, but in cases where a loan manager quit, males who filled in for female managers experienced an authority deficit compared to those who filled in for other men.
