McGill athletes score historic sweep

Marc André Dorion and fellow McGill hockey player Ann-Sophie Bettez (BCom’11) recorded a historic sweep of the BLG Awards, honouring Canada's top male and female university athletes. It was the first time in the 20-year history of the awards that one school had claimed both the male and female awards, which carry with it a $10,000 scholarship to attend a Canadian university grad school.

Renovations underway in Life Sciences Library

Due to renovations there may be intermittent noise on the 4th floor of the Life Sciences Library from now to July 20th.

Philippe Macnab-Séguin wins a BMI Student Composer Award

Philippe Macnab-Séguin was born in 1992 in Montreal. He is finishing his studies at Vanier College and is entering the Schulich School of Music Composition Program in September 2012. He has studied for the past year with Doctoral composition student Félix Baril.

Month of April Closing Delayed

Good Day Please note that due to the extended University year end period, the month of April will not be closing according to the usual month end schedule. April 2012 is scheduled to be closed on May 30th. This means that financial statements for April are still not available. An email notification will be sent when the financial statements are ready to be picked up in Minerva.

Update on May 2 talks with AMURE

At the meeting of both parties on May 2, the union proposed a few changes and agreed to the English and French versions of the texts relating to the seven articles on which there have been agreements since the start of negotiations. These texts will be signed by both parties at the next meeting.

David Maillet Honoured by Government of Quebec as 2012 Étudiants Chercheurs-Étoiles Award Winner

McGill PhD Neuroscience student David Maillet has been selected as the winner of an Étudiants Chercheurs-Étoiles award, of the Fonds Santé of the government of Quebec. David's research is aimed at better understanding why memory declines with age, in order to develop strategies to reduce or counteract this phenomenon, improving the quality of life for seniors in our society.

Smith Promenade (Griffintown) Urban Design Competition

The winning project in the urban design competition for the Smith Promenade, Griffintown, was unveiled on April 26, 2012. Among the four concepts developed by the finalist firms, the jury chose "Granny Smith," the project proposed by NIP Paysage. Two Adjunct Professors in the School were part of the winning team led by NIP Paysage: Sinisha Brdar and Conor Sampson (B.Arch. 1996).
