MARY ELLEN MACDONALD, PhD is a medical anthropologist with postdoctoral training in Pediatric Palliative Care. She currently is Assistant Professor in the Division of Oral Health and Society (Faculty of Dentistry) at McGill University. She also holds academic appointments in the Departments of Pediatrics, Oncology, and the School of Nursing at McGill University, and is Core Faculty in the McGill Centre for Medical Education, Affiliate Member of the McGill Biomedical Ethics Unit, and an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Anthropology at the University of Victoria. She chairs the McGill Qualitative Health Research Group.
In addition to her interests in palliative care and bereavement research, she is currently involved in medical education research, and research involving cultural aspects of health and illness with Aboriginal communities in Montreal and Northern Quebec.
Current research interests: Pediatric palliative care; oral health; qualitative methodologies; and cultural issues in health sciences education.
