Centraide Campaign Highlights
McGill and Centraide
Centraide's March of 1000 Umbrellas
On Tuesday October 1st, Centraide held it's annual March of 1000 Umbrellas. It was a beautiful summer-like day and McGill fielded a large contingent including Principal Suzanne Fortier, Kevin Whittaker, Michael Di Grappa, Peter Todd, members of the McGill Redmen football team, Marty the Martlet and many others! Click on the play button below to see a short slideshow of images from the event and click on the link to read about it in the McGill Reporter.
Give a little bitCo-chairs Michael Di Grappa (Vice-Principal, Administration and Finance) and Peter Todd (Dean, Desautels Faculty of Management), join forces with student accapella singing club Tonal Ecstasy to encourage the McGill community to "give a little bit" to Centraide.

You can make a difference in your communities
Welcome to the launch of the 2013 McGill Centraide Campaign – an opportunity for us to come together as a strong McGill community and reach out and help hundreds of thousands of fellow Montrealers in need.
In these exceptionally uncertain economic times, it is the vulnerable and disenfranchised who face the greatest challenges. There is a heartbreaking irony that as world markets dominate the news, the growing number of those most harshly affected tend to become increasingly invisible. In spite of these daunting circumstances, over 360 Centraide agencies across Greater Montreal continue to support their communities and meet the needs of half-a-million Montrealers. That’s nearly one in ten Montrealers. You probably know some of the people who need or benefit from a Centraide agency.
As members of the McGill community, we can have a significant and positive impact on our community and those in need of our help – many of whom may be our neighbours, colleagues and relatives. In the days to come, we will be sending you an email that gives you an easy and secure option to make your pledge online through payroll deductions – or indicate another preferred payment format.
While it may be that many of us worry if we can afford the demands on our own lives, and that the little we might be able to spare may not make much of a dent, please know that even a few dollars donated from each payroll can make a very big difference in making the lives of others much, much better.
DID YOU KNOW
What and who Centraide supports – and how
Located directly in the communities they help, Centraide agencies reach out directly to those who are isolated, in distress, and experiencing the pains of poverty such as family break-downs, violence, poor health and nutrition, substance abuse, and child development difficulties.
Some agencies are less well-known than other charities and causes and face even greater challenges in raising money to help their communities. And yet their work is so important, so they count on Centraide to help them serve the many needs of their communities such as serving healthy meals to people on limited means; supporting people transitioning from poverty to a better and more stable situation; teaching good nutrition to new mothers; providing services to newly arrived immigrants; supporting families coping with relatives with physical or mental disabilities; after school programs like sports and tutoring for children living in poverty or who are at risk, and so much more.
