Welcome to the future website of the new Institute for the Study of International Development

Development research and teaching has never been as strong at McGill as it is today, and this is reflected in the creation of the new Institute for the Study of International Development, ISID. With literally dozens of tenure-stream professors, graduate students and postdoctoral fellows working on issues relating to development, not to mention almost 1000 undergraduates enrolled in our International Development Studies Program, development studies has become a core strength of the Faculty of Arts, and an increasingly prominent feature of McGill in general. This renewed interest in development research and teaching builds on the strong foundation that was laid with the establishment of the Centre for Developing-Area Studies (CDAS) in 1963. Indeed, the renewed vibrancy of CDAS in recent years was a major catalyst for the creation of the Institute and CDAS will continue to serve as the research arm of ISID. With the creation of ISID, McGill University has become one of a few select North American epicentres for development research and teaching, generating impressive levels of original research, establishing new relations with the international development community, and training future generations of researchers, teachers, policymakers and development practitioners.
