It always gives me great pleasure to meet the many members of our McGill community who are thriving thanks to our donors’ extraordinary generosity – through enhanced student support, increased funding for graduate students, and new chairs and professorships, to name only a few examples.
And as I walk around our two beautiful campuses, I see the many tangible benefits of private giving: The buildings, career centres, laboratories, libraries, studios and classrooms that have been constructed, renovated and improved.
Of course, there are the many intangible, but equally important, improvements: the research initiatives, interdisciplinary collaborations, and global connections that are sparked and fueled – all thanks to your gifts to Campaign McGill.
Here we stand, two years after we publicly launched Campaign McGill, having reached an amazing milestone. It’s a time to celebrate and a time to reflect on what the Campaign has achieved so far. The best way we can illustrate the tremendous impact of your gifts is to show you some of the people who have benefited: our researchers, professors, staff members – and, of course, our students.
In this issue, we also shine a spotlight on our students in another context: as donors. Throughout Campaign McGill (and long before), students have given millions of dollars back to the University, as you’ll read here. Our students are the leaders, innovators and inventors of our future, and we applaud their commitment to giving back to the students who come after them.
And I commend you for your faith in McGill, your generosity and your foresight. Because of you and many others, McGill will continue to be at the forefront of teaching, scholarship, research and service. Thank you for joining us in making history and inventing the future.
