“I wanted to stand out from the crowd,” says Mohan Plakkot, MBA’09. He has certainly succeeded. By the time Plakkot graduated, he had already nabbed a position as director of finance at a growing technology firm.

While an MBA student, Plakkot took full advantage of the Desautels Faculty of Management’s Career Services. He attended corporate networking events, participated in local and international case competitions, and served on several student groups. He was also on the steering committee of a non-profit initiative which provided best management practices to non-governmental and non-profit organizations.

“Innovative programs, workshops and speaker series, coupled with an integrated learning approach, prepare our students and give them the skills to make an impact in their careers throughout their lifetime,” says Marie-José Beaudin, Executive Director of Desautels Career Services.

Plakkot is one of over 6,000 McGill students who turn to career advisors through their Faculties or the University-wide Career Planning Service to kick-start their careers each year. McGill works closely with employers to offer students more than 5,000 job and internship opportunities annually. Generous support from many private donors is woven into the fabric of all these opportunities.

Plakkot now mentors current Desautels management students. “I’ve been fortunate to find an incredible career and I’m happy to assist my colleagues to do the same.”
