Shell gift emphasizes leadership, innovation

In addition to funding scolarships, Shell offers an internship program for Engineering students, including Alec Carnovale (left) and Gonzalo Ruiz.

Shell Canada Limited recently presented McGill’s Faculty of Engineering with a $400,000 donation to support a broad range of student activities. The gift is the latest in a series of funding initiatives that Shell has launched across Canada through its innovative Campus Ambassador Program.

“With our time and our funds, Shell is committed to supporting a variety of innovative student-driven initiatives that help develop the skilled workforce to lead us into the future,” says Adrian Loader, Shell Canada’s country chair.

The gift to McGill provides a major lift to the new Engineering Student Centre by supporting activities such as career advising, leadership seminars, professional workshops and panel discussions with industry experts. Seven annual scholarships for undergraduate engineers have been created through the gift as well.

In keeping with Shell’s commitment to leading-edge technology, the gift will also support design projects in Engineering, enabling more interdisciplinary teams to participate in international competitions, such as solar car challenges. It will also provide assistance to undergraduates completing senior design projects—a mandatory requirement for a Bachelor of Engineering degree.
