Several years ago, Nathalie Bernier, BCom’86, was invited to serve on the Advisory Board for the Desautels Faculty of Management. Bernier, Managing Partner at KPMG, leapt at the opportunity, and has since given generously of her time and knowledge.
And she has done more: Bernier was instrumental in convincing the KPMG Foundation to support the Faculty’s Social Economy Initiative (SEI) – based in the Marcel Desautels Institute for Integrated Management – with a significant gift over five years. Then she made her own generous gift and lobbied KPMG’s McGill alumni across Canada to raise further funds for the SEI, which the KPMG Foundation is matching.
“The SEI is important because it brings together students and faculty to find innovative solutions to social problems,” she says. “I am very enthusiastic about its work.”
Bernier’s commitment to the University has deep roots. As a second-year student, Bernier was president of AIESEC McGill, linked to the international association of economics and commerce students; she says the experience taught her a great deal about her university and its global status. “I am very proud to have gone to McGill,” she says. “And Montreal is fortunate to have this world-class university.”
Today, she acts as a guest speaker at Faculty functions and a judge for the annual MBA case study competition, and also leads KPMG’s annual recruitment drive on campus.
“For me, the interaction with students is wonderful,” she says. “I am always energized by it and I encourage other alumni to get involved by sharing their knowledge as well as other resources with McGill and its students.”
