Dr. Philippe Savoie
Dr. Philippe Savoie is a Research Scientist with Agriculture and Agri-Food-Canada in Quebec City. Since 1982, he has been leading a research program in the area of forage and biomass harvest, conservation and utilization. Dr. Savoie developed several prototypes for intensive mechanical conditioning and hay drying which have led to commercial activities (forage macerator manufactured in Manitoba; corn kernel processor manufactured in Quebec; industrial hay dryer under construction in the Lower St. Lawrence region).
His current research includes developing harvest and processing technology for biomass (corn stover, willow). He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed articles, 200 conference papers and 90 other publications, including three patents. He received his training in agricultural engineering from McGill, Laval and Michigan State. He is a professional engineer and a professional agrologist. He served as President of CSBE/SCGAB; he received the Glenn Downing Award and the Maple Leaf Award for his contributions to R&D and the profession of bioengineering.
