Orientation and Advising

ACADEMIC ADVISING - DROP IN HOURS.
(Room 905A, McIntyre Medical Sciences Building)
WEDNESDAYS- 9:30am-11:00am.

 Orientation for U1 students only will be held on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at 1:00 PM in room 1034, McIntyre Medical Sciences Building.

NOTE: If you missed the Orientation, please come to any of the DROP-IN hours ONLY.

Students should register for courses before the advising appointment.

Students entering U1 must bring:

  • Copy of transcript (CEGEP or previous institution)
  • Complete listing of proposed courses for the upcoming year

Please take note that during July and August, Academic Advising meetings will be made by appointment only. Please be sure to e-mail your availability as well as your student ID number to christine [dot] laberge [at] mcgill [dot] ca, she will get back to you with an appointment.

Advising Appointments (returning students)

 Definition of a returning student (U0, U1, U2, U3)

A returning student is defined as one who has attended at least one term in the Faculty of Arts or Science, or another Faculty, and is registered for the current Winter session. A returning student falls into one of the following categories:

  1. student is currently registered in a departmental program;
  2. student is currently registered in the Arts or Science Freshman program;
  3. student is currently registered as 'Non-resident' (i.e. completing a year or term away at another university) or as 'Intern' (i.e. is completing a year or term in the Internship Program for Engineering and Science, IYES);
  4. student is currently registered in another faculty and has been accepted to transfer into Arts or Science for the upcoming fall session.

Freshman students (U0) — Advising appointments with the Student Affairs Officer

All students completing a Freshman program at McGill who plan to register in Biochemistry must schedule an advising appointment with christine [dot] laberge [at] mcgill [dot] ca (Christine Laberge) during the advising period for returning students. Students will be assigned an academic advisor during the advising sessions.

Students entering U1 must bring the following to their advising appointment:

  • Copy of academic record for current year
  • Completed Timetable
  • Complete listing of proposed courses for the upcoming year

U1, U2 and U3 students — Advising appointments with academic advisors

If you are currently registered in Biochemistry and will be entering U2 or U3, you should have had an academic adviser assigned to you in your first year.

It is your responsibility to keep your adviser informed of any failed courses.

Students entering U2 or U3 must bring the following to their advising appointment:

  • Copy of academic record
  • Completed Timetable
  • Complete listing of proposed courses for the upcoming year
