On behalf of our Chair, Dr. Albert Berghuis, and the faculty members of the Department, welcome to the Department of Biochemistry. We hope that your time here will be productive and creative, as well as an enjoyable part of your education.
The majority of our faculty members are located in the McIntyre Medical Sciences Building on the 7th, 8th and 9th floors, as well as the 4th, 5th and 6th floors of the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre and on the 3rd and 4th floors of the Bellini Life Sciences Building. Other members of the Department are located at the Royal Victoria Hospital, the Montreal General Hospital and other research institutes in the vicinity. Graduate students are encouraged to seek the advice and expertise of all our faculty members.
The information on the web site is intended to help you apply and then advance through your graduate degree program. Prospective Students will find information on preparing and may find an employment survey of recent graduates useful. Financial support is important, so look at Funding Opportunities to find scholarships you may be eligible for. General graduate student procedures and policies are under Program Information and Regulations & Guidelines. Requirements for the degree programs are under Master’s, Doctoral, Chemical Biology and Bioinformatics. Teaching Assistantships can supplement your stipend, on agreement of your supervisor. You are also part of the dynamic graduate student community represented by the Biochemistry Graduate Student Society (BGSS).
Ultimately, your academic program is your responsibility. Your research supervisor will be your guide and mentor, and communication between you and him/her is essential. The resources of the Department are also available to help.
Admnistration and advising are by the Student Affairs Officer, Christine Laberge, whose door is always open. You are always welcome to stop by or email at christine.laberge [at] mcgill.ca should you have a problem or query regarding your program.
