Beatty Memorial Fund Committee
Who we are
Chaired by the Vice-Principal (Research and International Relations), the Beatty Memorial Fund Committee oversees both the Beatty Memorial Lecture Series and the Beatty Talks.
The chair invites representatives from Faculties, departments, and institutes across McGill to serve as committee members. Other representatives of the McGill and wider communities also sit on the committee, at the chair’s discretion. In the past, these community representatives have included delegates from the McGill Alumni Association and the Post-Graduate Students’ Society as well as Montreal artists, media personalities, and business leaders.
Committee members serve a three-year term, which can be extended by one or two years.
What we do
The committee meets twice each academic year, usually in April and November. The main purpose of these meetings is to review applications – received by the recurring March 31 and October 31 deadlines – from the Beatty Talks program. As a group, the committee discusses, critiques, and selects the events it will fund following each call.
In addition, the committee regularly brainstorms about possible Beatty Memorial Lecturers and weighs the merits of any suggestions received between meetings.
