Charlène Puel, a native of Lyon, France and Jessica Porfilio of Longueuil, Que., captured three trophies apiece at the 15th annual McGill University track and field awards banquet held at the McGill Faculty Club, Friday.
McGill's Charlène Puel snared a couple of bronze medals on Friday at the CIS indoor track and field championship, a three-day competition at the University of Manitoba’s Max Bell Fieldhouse in Winnipeg. The mathematics senior from Lyon, France, who celebrated her 22nd birthday on Thursday, ended up third in a photo finish in the 1000m. Her other podium finish came as anchor of the 4x800 relay.
McGill University has qualified nine women and five men for the 2012 CIS indoor track and field championships in Winnipeg this week. The three-day national meet, hosted for the first time since 2005 by the University of Manitoba, kicks off Thursday at 11 a.m. Central with the season awards luncheon at Marshall McLuhan Hall on the campus of the U of M.
The McGill men's hockey team remain the No.2 team in the CIS men's hockey rankings this week. UNB, the reigning national champions, top the for the 13th time in 16 polls this season, and for the third week in a row.
