Student Exchanges and Study Abroad

Students interested in doing an exchange or term away are required to see an adviser to obtain pre-approval for the courses they wish to take.

Quebec Inter-University Transfer (IUT)

The IUT Agreement permits concurrent registration at McGill and another Quebec institution.

Students wishing to take advantage of this agreement should consult their Student Affairs Office for details.

Transferring Credits

Please be advised that McGill's credit transfer takes place on two levels:

  • the Faculty level (through the Student Affairs Office), and
  • the Program/Departmental level.

To seek pre-approval or complete the Course Approval form, you can:

  • Schedule an advising appointment by calling (514) 398-4804. Please make sure to bring a copy of your unofficial transcript from the host university (if you are a returning student), and course descriptions/outlines of the courses you intend to take, or have taken while abroad.
  • Send an ids [at] mcgill [dot] ca (e-mail) . Please include the following information: your name, ID number, McGill degree and programs, the name of your host institution, how many terms you will be abroad, course titles, descriptions and outlines of the courses you intend to take abroad.
