Facility for Architectural Research in Media Mediation

FARMM is a research lab funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (Professor Michael Jemtrud, PI). It is a non-hierarchical umbrella organization that links researchers and students from within the School of Architecture to other academic and professional researchers around the world. FARMM includes an administrative and technical staff alongside of state-of-the-art networking, simulation, and imaging technologies. AUTOCAD BALLET :: TOOLS FOR DIGITAL & MATERIAL DWELLING
RESEARCH/CREATION FINE ARTS SSHRC

Alberto Pérez-Gómez, Jason Crow

: TOOLS FOR DIGITAL & MATERIAL DWELLING RESEARCH/CREATION FINE ARTS SSHRC This project explores the use of digital tools in the creation of architectural spaces through a series of multidisciplinary projects that are premised on the conviction that traditional and contemporary technological tools for representation are never neutral. Instead, these powerful tools need to be critically engaged by both architects and their audiences in order to understand how we can fully use them to establish our own, fully human strategies for inhabitation in our material world.

IDF :: INTEGRATED DISSEMINATION FORUMS FOR ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN DESIGN PUBLIC OUTREACH & DISSEMINATION SSHRC

: INTEGRATED DISSEMINATION FORUMS FOR ARCHITECTURE AND URBAN DESIGN PUBLIC OUTREACH & DISSEMINATION SSHRC

Michael Jemtrud, Nik Luka, Torben Berns, Pieter Sijpkes, Philam Nguyen, Heather Braiden

This project involves the development of Integrated Dissemination Forums for Architecture and Urban Design (IDFAUD) as a strategy to usefully support community-driven,technologically-enabled, digitally-mediated, multi-modal collaboration and knowledge-mobilization practices.

ARCH 682 :: DIRECTED RESEARCH
IMAGE TEXT SOUND & TECHNOLOGY SSHRC

DIRECTED RESEARCH IMAGE TEXT SOUND & TECHNOLOGY SSHRC

Torben Berns, Michael Jemtrud, Anya Domlesky

This project supports a transdisciplinary collaborative work environment with aims at exploring spoken and written words, images, and models as developed across diverse fields of expertise. Individuals work in teams to produce a documented narrative as well as a proposal for a non-terrestrial community capable of thriving under found conditions in the narrative scenario.

DESIGN + COMPUTATION :: THE VIRTUE OF THE VIRTUAL
MAY 2011

: THE VIRTUE OF THE VIRTUAL MAY 2011

Design + Computation: The Virtue of the Virtual was an interdisciplinary conference aimed at responding to the changing meaning of the model in technology and society. It has become more important to begin a conversation that allows voices from disparate disciplines to critically assess the challenges to culture and design posed by advanced computation in the digital arena.
