Release dates for admission and entrance scholarships decisions

The date on which McGill will communicate its decision on your application is determined by several factors:

  • the completeness of your application by the deadline;
  • the type and location of educational institution you last attended (see table below);
  • the specific program(s) to which you applied (see note below regarding limited enrolment programs).

You may view the status of your application(s), including the receipt of supporting documents on Minerva. For more information, see Checking your application status.

For applications to Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (including Dietetics and Human Nutrition), Architecture, Arts, Education, Engineering, Environment, Management, Nursing, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy, Science, and/or Social Work, the table below indicates when you're likely to receive your admission decision.

The following programs have their own schedules for releasing admission decisions. For details, please refer to the faculty website:

Entrance scholarships

We consider all eligible applicants for non-renewable one-year entrance scholarships. However, only those who are awarded such a scholarship will be notified, normally within days of the admission decision.

For renewable Major entrance scholarships, for which an application is required, all applicants will be notified of their updated status within a week or two of the admission decision.

Estimated dates for release of admission decisions 2015/16

McGill’s admission process is competitive and complex, due to its very strong, diverse applicant pool.  Every effort is made to deliver decisions as soon as possible. Please note that dates listed are estimated and subject to change. You should check your application on Minerva  regularly for decision and status updates. You may also AskMcGill (McGill’s instant answer service), if you have further questions about these dates.  We are thankful to applicants and their families for their patience and understanding during this exciting and, sometimes, stressful time.

Some decisions may take longer

In the event that you do not receive a decision within the dates indicated, there are several possible explanations. A decision may take longer if:

-you submit incomplete, late or unnecessary documentation; i.e., beyond what is requested, or you do not provide the documents requested by admissions staff in a timely manner. Priority is given to complete, punctual applications. Please refer to Checking your application status for guidance.

-you apply to a small, highly competitive program with a strictly limited space, including Architecture, Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Social Work;

-extenuating circumstances described in your application require a more detailed review, see http://www.mcgill.ca/applying/admissionsguide/2015-16/general-requirements

-your grades fall just below our admission level for the year. You may be invited to join a waiting-list for a defined period. Depending on how many students actually take up the McGill offer, a small number of admission offers may be made to those on a waiting-list.

If you are sure that none of these factors are valid in your case and are concerned about the timing of our decision on your application, then do contact Service Point http://www.mcgill.ca/students/servicepoint/contactus

Reconsideration of an Admission Decision

Starting on March 1, any applicant whose request for admission has been denied may submit a written request for reconsideration of the admission decision. The request must include information in support of reconsideration; see Reconsideration of an Admission Decision [.pdf].  This request must be sent to the admissions office which denied admission. Regardless of when they are received, requests will only be processed after March 1.  It is not normally possible to reconsider admission decisions made after June 10th.
