Professor
Professor (contract academic staff)
Contractual appointment conferred on CAS Associate Professors or on new appointees who are judged to have met the appropriate criteria for this rank. Appointees are expected to devote themselves to academic duties assigned by their chair/dean, reflected by a “descriptor” in parenthesis to their rank. Appointees are not eligible for consideration for tenure.
Assistant Professor

Contractual appointment during which appointees are expected to devote themselves to academic duties assigned by their chair/dean, reflected by a "descriptor" in parenthesis to their rank. Appointees are not eligible for consideration for tenure.
Curator
Curator (contract academic staff)
An unranked contractual appointment. Appointee has overall responsibility for the growth, organization and management of a University collection or museum. Appointee is also expected to teach and/or conduct research.
Associate Curator

An unranked contractual appointment. Appointee has overall responsibility for the growth, organization and management of a University collection or museum. Appointee is also expected to teach and/or conduct research.
Associate Professor

An unranked contractual appointment. Appointee has a minimum of six years continuous employment at McGill as an Academic Associate and meets the promotion criteria.
Course Lecturer
Course Lecturer (contract academic staff)
A person appointed on a contractual course-by-course basis to teach one or more courses.
Senior Instructor
Senior Instructor (contract academic staff)
A unranked contractual appointment – appointee is Instructor with a minimum of six (6) years experience as such who meets the promotion criteria
