Person appointed upon the recommendation of either a Statutory Selection Committee or the University Tenure Committee for Recruitment (UTCR) to:
- an appointment with tenure conferred on tenure-track Associate Professors, or
- a tenure track appointment of limited maximum duration (five years). Mandatory consideration for tenure in the 4th year.
- an appointment conferred on new appointees who are judged to have met the appropriate criteria for the conferral of this rank.
Appointees are expected to devote themselves to the full range of academic duties as defined in the regulations.
The Regulations Relating to the Employment of Tenure Track and Tenured Academic Staff (RRETAS) govern this academic classification.
