Mandate of the Associate Provost (Academic Staff & Priority Initiatives)

Reporting to the Provost, the Associate Provost (Academic Staff & Priority Initiatives) is responsible for the following:

  • liaison with the Faculties to facilitate their strategic planning, especially in relation to teaching and research initiatives;
  • overseeing, in close collaboration with Faculty Deans and Department Chairs, the life-cycle of academic staff from recruitment to retirement including academic life cycle issues: recruitment, reappointment, anomaly & retention increases, stipends, leaves of absence;
  • providing, in consultation with Deans and senior administration, recommendations on tenure track complement numbers and targets for Faculties, especially in relation to strategic planning goals and objectives;
  • assisting academic administrators with academic advising and counselling in matters relating to regulations and policies;
  • developing with the Deputy Provost (Student Life & Learning) and the Vice-Principal (Research & International Relations) strategic teaching and research initiatives and planning outreach to other universities and partners;
  • developing, in close cooperation with the Director of Libraries, strategic plans for the future of the library and collection resources;
  • overseeing the libraries and collections and developing new initiatives for the management of non-library collections;
  • overseeing the Academic Personnel Office.
