The Counselling Service assists students who are dealing with concerns of a psychological, vocational or academic nature. The service is open during the school year from Monday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. with walk-in hours from noon to 4 p.m. If a student is in crisis, he or she will be seen by the counsellor on call, and a subsequent appointment or referral will be made. Students can be seen on an individual basis throughout the year by the Counselling Service, and also have the opportunity to participate in a variety of groups and workshops. The Dental Clinic offers on-campus routine and emergency care to the Universityâ€™s student community in the Brown Student Services Building. The clinic is staffed by dentists and hygienists affiliated with the Faculty of Dentistry who provide a wide variety of services.

The Universityâ€™s various health insurance plans cover the cost of most basic services available at the clinic. Information about the undergraduate studentsâ€™ plan is available from the Quebec Student Health Alliance (ASEQ). Undergraduates can also contact the Studentsâ€™ Society of McGill University (SSMU), while graduate students can learn more by contacting the Post-Graduate Studentsâ€™ Society (PGSS). Students should bring their McGill ID card and their student health insurance card with them to their visit. The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, by appointment only. The Mental Health Service, located in the Brown Student Services Building, offers psychological and psychiatric services to McGill students. Experienced psychiatrists and psychologists are available by appointment for the assessment and treatment of many conditions. The McGill Counselling Service is also available, providing walk-in appointments for nonemergency visits. Strict confidentiality is ensured.
Appointments can usually be scheduled within two weeks of a studentâ€™s first contact with the service. Students must present a valid McGill ID card and medical insurance card upon each visit. While there is no charge for appointments for students with a valid medical insurance card, students who cancel appointments with less than 24 hoursâ€™ notice will be responsible for part of the cost of their missed appointment.
Emergency services are available at the Mental Health Service Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students who drop in due to an urgent situation will be seen briefly and given a follow-up appointment or referral as appropriate. For emergencies in the evenings or on weekends, the nearby Montreal General Hospital provides service for students in the McGill area.
The Student Health Service is located in the Brown Student Services Building and deals with both the prevention and treatment of injuries and illness. Services are provided by experienced physicians and nurses. Students can make appointments with a nurse or doctor by contacting the Health Service reception desk at 514-398-6017.
Nursing appointments are available for a variety of health-related issues, including travel vaccinations, allergy shots and updating immunizations. Doctorsâ€™ appointments are often used for general check-ups, specific medical problems, conditions requiring a prescription, and to address any other concerns patients might have.
