The University’s various health insurance plans cover the cost of most basic services available at the clinic. Information about the undergraduate students’ plan is available from the Quebec Student Health Alliance (ASEQ). Undergraduates can also contact the Students’ Society of McGill University (SSMU), while graduate students can learn more by contacting the Post-Graduate Students’ Society (PGSS). Students should bring their McGill ID card and their student health insurance card with them to their visit. The clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday to Friday, by appointment only. In case of an emergency, call the Dental Clinic at 514-398-3155.

Mental Health Service

The Mental Health Service, located in the Brown Student Services Building, offers psychological and psychiatric services to McGill students. Experienced psychiatrists and psychologists are available by appointment for the assessment and treatment of many conditions. The McGill Counselling Service is also available, providing walk-in appointments for nonemergency visits. Strict confidentiality is ensured.

Appointments can usually be scheduled within two weeks of a student’s first contact with the service. Students must present a valid McGill ID card and medical insurance card upon each visit. While there is no charge for appointments for students with a valid medical insurance card, students who cancel appointments with less than 24 hours’ notice will be responsible for part of the cost of their missed appointment.

Emergency services are available at the Mental Health Service Monday to Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Students who drop in due to an urgent situation will be seen briefly and given a follow-up appointment or referral as appropriate. For emergencies in the evenings or on weekends, the nearby Montreal General Hospital provides service for students in the McGill area.
