The Sixth McGill Conference on Global Food Security will be hel d on Tuesday, October 8th and Wednesday, October 9th, 2013. The theme o f this year's Conference is Strategies against Food Insecurity and Hunger. The Conference brings together different players from the agricultura l sector, from producers to policy makers, and includes a breadth of sub jects critical to food security, with speakers and participants from morethan 20 developing and developed countries. Through plenary sessions andcross-sectoral dialogue, the annual Conference will explore strategies a nd solutions against food insecurity and global hunger. Since its incep tion in 2008, the annual McGill Conference on Global Food Security has un covered critical issues affecting the world's poorest and undernourished p opulations. The themes from the previous five Conferences: The World Food Crisis: Framing a McGill Response (2008); Impacts of Global Financial Tur moil on Food Security (2009); Food Security, Water Scarcity, and Nutrit ion (2010); Risk and Threats to Food Security (2011); and Food Prices an d Political Instability (2012) serve as the cornerstones for this year's t heme: Strategies against Food Insecurity and Hunger. By integrating outcom es from the previous Conferences, it is apparent that food security strat egies need to better incorporate the overlap between i) sustainable food p roduction, ii) income generation, iii) nutrition, and iv) institutionalstability to improve the nutritional status of the world's poorest people .
