The Ph.D. 1 option is for students who enter the program without a Master’s degree.
The Ph.D. 2 option is designed for students who enter the program with an MA in anthropology. It consists of preparation of bibliographic essays in three subfields of the discipline, a language examination, and preparation and defense of a research proposal.
