Welcome to Iwao Hirose's Research Page
I came to McGill to take up the post of assistant professor in August 2007. Before McGill, I was Donnely junior research fellow at University College, Oxford (2003-06) and research fellow at the Harvard Program in Ethics and Health (2006-07). I was also a half-time research fellow at the University of Melbourne (2007-09). I held visiting posts at Universite Catholique de Louvain (2004), University of Stockholm (2006, 2009), University of Tokyo (2009), St Anne's College, Oxford (2010), and New York University (2011). I will be visiting Fondation Brocher, Switzerland, in May and June 2012.
The area of my research is in ethics (meta, normative, medical, and environmental), political philosophy (distributive justice) and the philosophy of economics (rationality and social choice).
I am working on three monographs: Moral Aggregation (under contract with Oxford University Press, 2012); Egalitarianism (under contract with Routledge, 2013); and Ethics and Health Care Rationing (with Greg Bognar, under contract with Routledge, 2013). I am also editing the Oxford Handbook of Value Theory (obviously, under contract with Oxford University Press, 2014) with Jonas Olson.
